100 Years of Engagement Rings

We have quite the Tuesday treat for you today, a little wedding history! Remember that awesome video we posted a few months ago that showcased 100 years worth of wedding dresses by the decade? Well Mode is back at it and this time they are highlighting 100 years of the engagement ring. Each decade is broken down and the prevalent ring style of the time period is highlighted. We LOVE these videos. It’s so neat to not only see how trends have evolved, but how they always eventually come back around (except for the 80s – please stay put 80s trends).

Which one is your favourite? We have to say obviously the current 2010s ring is our personal favourite – but we also love the older vintage rings from the 1920s and 1930s. They were so ornate and detailed. Our least favourites would have to be the rings from the 1950s and 1970s with the gold bands and settings (yes, I know – shockingly the ring from the 1980s was not as tacky as I was expecting). Also, how about some of those ring boxes? Super neat! We LOVE the ring box from the 1920s with it’s angled base and elaborate opening.

In comparison to the 100 years of wedding dresses video, I didn’t find that the rings in this video matched the decades as well as the wedding gowns from the other video. With the exception of the 1920s and 1930s really nailing the Art Deco era, nothing else really screamed the time period that it was from. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section. We’d love to hear from you!

Happy viewing!
