Trend Report – Waterfall Wedding Gown

A new trend is emerging in wedding gowns as of late. And by new, I mean an old trend re-ignited (aren’t all the best trends new trends brought back to life anyways?). Who remembers the classic  Guns ‘N Roses music video for November Rain from the early 1990s, the prime of the MTV era. It’s really a short film considering November Rain is a whopping 9 minutes long. You’re probably asking yourself what on earth November Rain has to do with today’s wedding trends. Well, if you recall the music video featured the staged wedding of lead singer Axl Rose and his then real life girlfriend, supermodel Stephanie Seymour. Her wedding dress in the video? Let me just say it was iconic and started a massive trend in the early 90’s in both wedding and daily fashion. If you need a reminder, here is a (blurry) picture.

The re-emergence of November Rain’s famous wedding gown was firmly established on the runways, newly dubbed the waterfall gown (or a high-low hemline). Of course, nothing is as extreme as the 80s/early 90s. Happily, the trend is coming back in a more more subdued style with slight variances in the height of the hemlines and softer, more feminine lines.

And to further seal the deal, former reality starlet from The Hills and The City, Whitney Port got married in an edgy, yet feminine take on the trend. Designed by Mohammad Ashi of Ashi Studio, the dress was said to be inspired by a vintage chandelier from Venice and Florence. How dreamy!

Whitney-Port-Wedding-Dress We’re curious to see if any of our Brightside Films brides will be sporting this look at any of our upcoming 2016 weddings. What do you think about this style trend’s return? Happy to see a refreshing change to wedding gowns, or would you rather it have stayed put in the early 90s? Share in the comment section. We love to hear from you!

To send you off into the week, here is Guns ‘N Roses’ November Rain music video.

Happy viewing!
