Ways to Involve your Mom in Your Wedding

In honour of Mother’s Day this weekend, the Brightside Films team has come up with a list of ways for a bride to involve her mom (and future mother-in-law) on her wedding day. It’s easy to get so wrapped up in the planning of the day and forget that yes it’s the brides day, but it’s the MOB’s day too!

A daughter’s wedding is a day that every mom dreams of from the moment their little baby girl is placed in their arms. It’s a right of passage and many mother’s feel that their daughter’s wedding day is the day they’ve finally grown up and are starting their own family. It’s a day of reflection and you better believe your mom will be feeling extra nostalgic and emotional so make sure she is feeling extra loved leading up to the big day and on the wedding day as well. We’ve rounded up 10 great options to include Mom – of course you don’t have to do every single one but this gives you a few to pick from. Well, let’s get started!

Dress Shopping

First and foremost (and probably the most traditional mother-daughter moment) is to bring your mom dress shopping. As we’ve all learned from Say Yes to the Dress, the mom gets just as (if not more) emotional than the bride. This is one of the top moments for a mother of the bride so make sure to include her in this moment, if nothing else.

Seating Chart

Who knows your family (and who can’t sit with who) better than mom and future M-I-L? Nobody! This is the perfect activity to get your moms involved and ease the stress of your back. Trust me when I say this is always one of the more stressful tasks during the planning process.

Budget Planning

Moms are some of the most budget conscious, financially responsible people we know! So who better to help budget what money where than her? She’s also been here before so she’ll know what matters most and what can come secondary.

Guest List

This goes hand in hand with your seating chart. Remember, this is a big day for mom too so make sure she has some say in who gets invited.

The Contact Person

Wedding days (and the days leading up to it and after it) are hectic. There’s only so much a bride can do so you’ll need to assign a liaison to take vendor calls and/or guest calls. People will have last minute questions, delivery delays amongst other things that you can’t plan for so the best thing you can do is delegate your most trusted individual to the task.

Getting Dressed on Wedding Day

Okay, so call us biased but some of the best wedding day footage comes from those few intimate moments between mother and daughter as mom helps the bride put on her dress. Tears always ensue – this is usually the first of many, so make sure you have tissues.

Organize the toasts & speeches

Let’s face it. Your mom and mother in law will know everyone who is important enough to you and future hubs to narrow down who gets to make a speech, who can make a toast and how long everyone has. A wedding is a fine tuned event and these things can go on and on if not kept in check.

Creating a Registry

I mean it’s basically shopping so why wouldn’t mom come with you? She’ll probably enjoy it more than your fiancee anyways (just make sure you include him sometimes too)

Any DIY projects

If you’re a DIY bride, you’ll most likely be hosting a craft night. Ask mom to host or simply invite her along for the fun. This is one of the fun nights of planning and she will appreciate being included.

Planning the post-wedding brunch or rehearsal dinner

This is typically hosted by either the bride or groom’s parents, so if mom is willing, why not ask her to take on the task of hosting either the rehearsal dinner or a post-wedding brunch?

Above all else, involve your mother by asking for advice and inviting her along to appointments and planning nights. Don’t forget, your mother has been waiting for your wedding day probably longer than you’ve been so just being a part of the process will mean the world to her.

Did we forget anything? Let us know how you plan on or already have involved your mother and future mother in law in your wedding planning and wedding day. Share in the comment section. We love hearing from you!

Lastly, happy mother’s day to all our mom readers!
