Timeshared Weddings

The price tag for the average Canadian wedding has officially surpassed the $30,000 mark. That’s $1250 an hour for a single, 24 hour day making it one of the biggest purchases made in a lifetime, alongside a car and a house. Most are willing to spend the money or find ways to cut corners here and there, but for some people, this is a hard pill to swallow. Well, if you’re one of those people who just can’t justify that high dollar per hour, we’ve got quite the idea for you.

Timeshared weddings.

We’ve heard of joint weddings before, but this is an entirely new concept. Like a vacation timeshare, four betrothed couples split the cost of a wedding ceremony and reception. Couples have identical weddings consecutively on the same day and in doing so are able to share the cost of all wedding expenses. Everything is exactly the same for each couple, except for the time of day their celebration occurs, the dress, suits, and rings. They share the same venue, theme, decor and vendors (catering company, videographer, photographer, florist, make up artists, etc.)

Each couple gets their turn at the day of their dreams for 1/4 of the price. After choosing from three different venue packages complete with pre-selected vendors, weddings are slotted into a time of day- morning, lunch, afternoon or evening. The weddings must adhere to a strict time limitation, including a two hour reception and each couples’ guest list is limited to only 50 people.

Couples can reportedly cut their wedding costs by 75%.

This creative concept arose from Australian wedding planner, Tanya Liddell of Sassaffair Events, who came up with the idea of a fixed-price wedding after being inundated with pleas of help from brides trying to find a way have the wedding of their dreams with small budgets. She dubbed the idea, “Sugared Weddings” and along with her group of pre-selected vendors and venues, offers the service on one day per month at three different venues.
