Winter Weddings in Muskoka

Well, it’s official. Although it’s a bit late, it looks like spring is finally here to stay (fingers crossed)! Help us here at Brightside Films bid a very fond farewell to old man winter by celebrating our favourite part of this long, cold season: Winter weddings!

In Ontario, we certainly experience every season to its fullest; especially in Muskoka, Ontario’s cottage country. Muskoka is a world-renowned travel destination and is famed as being Canada’s Hamptons. Typically, when people think of Muskoka they think of summertime: lying on the dock, barbecues on the patio and boating on the lake. But Muskoka has three other seasons full of inviting scenery and fun activities and despite the cold; winter is one of the best. Yes, we said it! Winter in Muskoka may be just as beautiful as summer in Muskoka, and this makes it a perfect season for a wedding.

Not only are weddings more affordable in the winter, but having a wedding out of season provides a higher likelihood of you getting the wedding date you want and a better chance that your guests won’t have other summertime commitments. A winter wedding in Muskoka takes the event to a whole new level with a venue surrounded by snow covered trees, frozen lakes and fresh, crisp air – doesn’t this sound like a breathtaking backdrop for beautiful wedding videography and photographs?

In addition to the scenery, there are so many other perks to escaping up north for a wedding mid-winter. Let’s round up our top 5 favourite reasons for winter weddings in Muskoka!

– Ladies, swap the high heels for cute boots and wrap yourself in lux furs for chic, classic wedding pictures. A wedding dress shot with a backdrop of snow filled trees is beautiful and timeless. As for the men, try a cozy cable knit sweater or a tweed blazer for a twist on the traditional groomsmen attire.

– Gentlemen, trade in traditional summer sports for winter ones on the morning of the wedding. Go ice fishing instead of fishing, or better yet, swap the golf clubs for hockey sticks and shovel some snow off the lake for a round of shiny. Much cheaper than a round of golf and perfectly Canadian.

– Looking forward to a newlywed boat ride post-wedding? Try something new like a horse drawn sleigh ride or dog sledding instead. Snuggle up under warm blankets out in the open air while taking in the calm scenery.

– You may not get the warm weather, but cooler weather ensures you and your guests won’t be boiling in the hot summer sun and your make-up and hair will last much longer.

– Create an outdoor lounge space around a fire pit with mulled wine, a hot chocolate bar and a smore station. This will give your guests a chance to experience the outdoors while keeping cozy warm.
